Aphra Brandreth, Member of Parliament for Chester South and Eddisbury, has visited Meadow’s Headquarters in Chester.
She met with Chief Executive Officer, Mr Raj Tugnait, to highlight their work in producing ingredients for some of the nation’s best-loved confectionery, dairy and plant-based products and discuss the challenges facing the food sector.
Prior to her election as the Member of Parliament for Chester South and Eddisbury, Aphra Brandreth MP visited Meadow’s headquarters in Chester. The plant is the UK’s largest dairy balancing and anhydrous milk fat producer and is working to improve its already excellent record on sustainability as the producer with the lowest carbon footprint in the UK for milk.
Like all companies in the food production sector, throughout the ‘farm to fork’ journey, Meadow has faced fresh challenges that have led to them looking for new technologies and innovative techniques.
Meadow is also adapting to changing consumer taste in becoming a major player in the plant-based market. During her visit, the MP was able to see the new area of the plant that was producing a plant-based yoghurt product for a major brand that will be hitting shelves in the near future.
Aphra is looking forward to working closely with Meadow and continuing to ensure that the food production industry at all stages is well-represented in Parliament. Food security is national security and Aphra is determined to hold the Government to account where policy is detrimental to it but will also work collaboratively with Ministers to deliver for farmers, food producers and consumers.
Aphra Brandreth, Member of Parliament for Chester South & Eddisbury commented:
"It is fantastic to have Meadow in our new constituency of Chester South & Eddisbury and I am delighted to have met Raj and the team prior to the General Election so that I could understand the issues facing the industry and stand ready to help from ‘Day 1’.
“I know how important food security is not just to Chester South & Eddisbury as a constituency, home to many farmers and food producers, the backbone of our rural economy, but also to the country as we face challenges such as the war in Ukraine, the shortage of labour and usage of land.
I am delighted to now be in a position to address these problems in Parliament and to speak up for all stages and sectors in our rural economy from the ‘green benches’.”
Mr Raj Tugnait, CEO of Meadow added:
For over 30 years Meadow has been steadily growing as a business that now spans 5 sites across the UK, partnering with some of the world’s leading brands to manufacture critical food ingredients.
The Chester facility is unique in scale and capabilities across the UK and has grown from a dairy to a leading food ingredient manufacturer.
Aphra’s knowledge of food and manufacturing was impressive and authentic. There is a genuine desire to make business a force for good in her constituency and I look forward to working with her. Thriving manufacturing is not just good news for the constituency but also for UK PLCs.
