Aphra Brandreth, Member of Parliament for Chester South & Eddisbury, has visited Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre to meet with Janet King and to hear about the work they are doing to protect and promote the shire horse.
Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre opened to the public in 2003 under the ownership of Mr & Mrs Alistair and Janet King. Alistair and Janet have been breeding shire horses through the Cotebrook Shire Horse Stud and have seen tremendous success with numerous national champions. Alistair sadly passed away in March 2022 but his work and legacy has been continued by Janet, the King family and the small team at Cotebrook.
Cotebrook also has a plethora of other animals including otters, red squirrels, red deer and Scottish wildcats. The coffee shop, gift shop and play park make Cotebrook an ideal attraction for a family day out or for a quiet stroll around the Centre's 50-acre grounds.
During the visit, Aphra was able to meet several of the Centre's horses including Gillie, a colt foal, named after the most famous peak in the Black Cuillin mountain range of the Isle of Skye, and a colt, called Ben Vane, also named after a mountain in Scotland.
Aphra Brandreth, Member of Parliament for Chester South & Eddisbury said:
"I was delighted to visit Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre and to meet with Janet. The Centre is not just an important part of our constituency, it is also a great local business and a of national importance to the shire horse community. It was a privilege to be given a tour by Janet and to hear the stories of many of the horses, their relationship with Alistair and Janet and the meanings behind their names.
"It is clear that the team at Cotebrook love the horses a great deal and care for them incredibly well. There is a real sense of 'family' between the horses and the staff and I am delighted and proud to have such an amazing place in our constituency.
